In September 2014, a new National Curriculum was introduced to all state schools. Following this, in September 2015, the way that we assess children's attainment and progress changed dramatically.
Under the old system, there were attainment levels and level-related expectations, e.g. Year 2 children were expected to achieve level 2 and Year 6 children were expected to achieve level 4.
In the new system, schools are free to choose their own assessment methods in line with three key principles:
  • Give reliable information to parents about how their child, and their child’s school, is performing;
  • Help drive improvement for pupils and teachers;
  • Make sure the school is keeping up with external best practice and innovation
At South Malling, we have developed our own system called Learning Links, you can find out more details in the PowerPoint presentation below.
